Join Us For Virtual Dungeons and Dragons!

When my husband asked that I join a Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) game a few years ago, I was very skeptical, but since then I have become a huge fan. D&D has recently had a resurgence in popularity due to shows like The Big Bang Theory and Stranger Things.

How do you play and what’s it about? Well D&D is a role playing game. All you need is paper and pencil and some dice (or a dice app). One individual acts as the Dungeon Master to run your adventure and the rest of the players act as a group of adventurers who work cooperatively to solve a mystery, slay a monster, or solve a problem. Each person has a character (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, wizard, etc) they play and the dice let you know whether you succeed or not with your action. In our last adventure we visited the country of Barovia where we embarked on an adventure to protect two innocent children from a house filled with secrets and malevolent beings.

D&D can be a great deal of fun if you play your character with flair and a bit of drama. It’s also a wonderful way to meet new people all while using your imagination. D&D’s basic rules are available for free online, but more can be found in the Player’s Handbook. If you decide to run your own game you’ll want to pick up the Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Monster Manual.

Of course you will not need these books in order to participate in MCPL’s Virtual D&D and I can personally attest to the fact that all 8 participants had fun when we launched our first adventure last Saturday. We absolutely welcome beginners and we will supply you with pre-made characters for your first time out.

We look forward to seeing you Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 PM for our next D&D adventure. Register today!
