Montgomery Moving Forward and MCPL bring a pilot of The Basics to the 20877 zip code in Montgomery County, starting this week! Join us to learn about five crucial practices for young children.
The Basics was originally developed in Boston and is also known as Boston Basics. The Basics is currently in use in over 30 communities around the United States, including some in Maryland, and is also being implemented in other countries. The Basics consists of five parenting and caregiving pillars to promote high-quality cognitive and social emotional development from birth to age five.
The Basics’ local campaigns work through their partner organizations to ensure that children aged birth to three experience “the Basics” for a great start in life. The graphics below list the five Basics pillars–used in many of our MCPL storytimes.

MMF is working on its second issue: Early Care and Education (ECE). In February, MMF issued a Call to Action outlining the need for a better system of ECE in Montgomery County.
