Get your fins on, because MCPL’s Shark Appreciation Week 2022 is slicing through the summer! From July 24 to 30, you can celebrate all things shark at Montgomery County Public Libraries.
Shark Appreciation Week Events!
In addition to the usual books, e-books, e-audio books, e-comics, streaming movies, music, and other electronic resources to learn about sharks, there are also plenty of shark-themed activities and events.
You can meet a live shark at the Chevy Chase Library at Sharks! a special event on Thursday, July 28 at 3 PM. This program, presented by Under The Sea/Glen Echo Park Aquarium, is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC). Other libraries will be hosting a variety of shark-themed activities such as storytimes, movies, STEM activities, scavenger hunts, take & make crafts, selfie stations, or coloring sheets for kids. All libraries will have displays of shark books you can peruse and borrow, as well as an ancient Eocene Era shark fossil on display.
Post Your #FlatFinley Pics!
The star of Shark Appreciation Week will be Flat Shark Finley, your very own shark buddy to take along on all your summer adventures. You can pick up Flat Finley at any MCPL branch in June or July (while supplies last), or print one yourself. Take Flat Finley on all your summer adventures—to the pool, the beach, the ice cream stand, the aquarium, Grandma’s house, on vacation, on an airplane, even to pick out a new puppy—everywhere you go! Take plenty of pictures of yourself and Finley having fun, and ask your grown-up to post the photos on social media with the tag #FlatFinley. Then watch for your photos to be shared on MCPL’s social media platforms during Shark Appreciation Week at the end of July.
