MCPL is thrilled to be participating in Hatchlings, a Maryland State Library-sponsored program developed by the creator of Mother Goose on the Loose, Dr. Betsy Diamant-Cohen. This program helps expectant and new parents build the skills they need to be their child’s first teachers.
Ready to Hatch
Part One of the two-part Hatchlings program is called Ready to Hatch. It uses songs and fun activities to help expectant parents learn about their baby’s brain and body development, and how to set their child up for successby encouraging reading from the start. Attendees will receive a free book, an early literacy activity calendar, and bilingual Spanish/English song sheets.
For this program, MCPL is partnering with the Silver Spring Judy Center Early Learning Hub at Rolling Terrace Elementary School. Named after the late wife of long-time Maryland Representative Steny Hoyer, Judy Centers, located at Title One schools throughout the state, connect families to resources in their communities.
Registration is required, and space is limited to expectant parents only. Ready to Hatch will take place this spring at three libraries:
White Oak on Thursday, March 16th at 11 AM
Wheaton, a bilingual (Spanish/English) program, on Saturday, March 25th at 11 AM
