MCPL Partners with the Nationals for the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge!

Batter up!

Books and baseball are a winning combination and it’s easier than ever to enjoy both this summer, thanks to Montgomery County Public Libraries’ 2024 Summer Reading Challenge. The Washington Nationals and MCPL have teamed up for the fifth consecutive year to reward summer readers with an adventure at the ballpark!

Here’s how it works: When kids sign up, they can select a free book to add to their personal collection, while supplies last. Sign-ups continue throughout the summer, so there’s still time to join in the fun. Children earn e-badges each time they complete four activities and log them online. As kids complete these activities, the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County and the Montgomery Parks Foundation will work together to increase accessibility to local parks, preserve local history, and make Montgomery Parks beautiful.

Thousands of kids have already joined the challenge and are receiving the first e-badge, the Trailblazer, and the second e-badge, Become a Time Traveler, every day!

Teens and kids who earn these e-badges can visit their local library to pick up a voucher for two (2) Nationals baseball tickets, while supplies last. Readers should visit the Nationals’ Summer Reading website to see which games and seats are available, and to redeem their vouchers.

The Washington Nationals are eager to welcome readers to the ballpark and are planning Story Times at Nationals Park on August 4th and September 1st. On these game days ticket holders will have early access to the park, will listen to stories read by a Nationals player and may take part in other literacy-based activities! Can’t make it on those dates? Don’t worry, there are plenty of other game dates to choose from.

To wrap up the summer, children can earn their Park Protector e-badges beginning August 4. In recognition of this e-badge, the FOLMC will award kids and teens a voucher for a free book from one of two FOLMC bookstore locations, while supplies last.

Adventure starts at MCPL this summer, and continues all the way to Nationals Park. Sign up and log activities today to reserve your seat at the ballpark!
