Montgomery County Public Libraries serves Montgomery County’s 1.1 million residents in 21 branches across the County, plus adults who live elsewhere but work or go to school in the County, and residents of neighboring District of Columbia, or Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, or Prince William Counties in Northern Virginia.

Library Cards

MCPL users acquired 62,000 new library cards in 2025! Cards are available to Montgomery County residents, those who attend school or work in Montgomery County, and residents of the District of Columbia, and in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, or Prince William Counties in Northern Virginia.

Computers and Technology

Our branches offer computer access to our customers, in addition to printing services. MCPL customers logged 362,012 computer sessions in our branches in 2025. Desktop computers are available at all MCPL locations except Noyes Library for Young Children. Just log in with your library card number and PIN.

Collaboration Spaces and Meeting Rooms

MCPL offers plenty of space for individual or group needs. Choose from quiet study rooms, collaboration spaces, and meeting rooms, for individuals and groups (one booking per day, for a total of two hours.) In 2025, our customers used nearly 112,000 rooms!

Video games Available for Checkout

The MCPL video game collection debuted for checkouts this November! Games for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5 and Xbox X are available across our branches.

Genealogy

My China Roots allows you to Search millions of genealogy records from mainland China and the Chinese diaspora. The database offers records in Chinese and English, automated translation, online workshops and individualized family research support.

African-American Heritage database is exclusively devoted to African-American family history research. It brings together critical records and connects them to a community of research experts.

We added the Baltimore Banner and Baltimore Banner Montgomery to the list of news sources MCPL cardholders can access for free!
