Sing!

  • Why sing?
    • When you sing with your child, you help them learn vocabulary, practice concepts (like counting, colors, the alphabet), and learn all kinds of information about the world around them, as well as rules of language, like rhyming and grammar, all in a fun and engaging way.
    • Singing slows down language, which helps children hear the sounds in words more easily, a necessary skill for sounding out words later as a new reader.
    • Children’s songs offer lots of repetition, an aid to learning.
    • Singing helps us feel the rhythm of language.
    • Learning songs strengthens memory skills and improves concentration, attention, and self-regulation, all necessary skills for school.
  • Some songs to sing!
  • Rhymes and rhyming games are great, too!
